The computer nerd...

Anybody who knows me, knows I'm nuts about computers. My five-day-a-week job involves writing PC applications and a large percentage of my free time involves doing something with computers.

I started learning about computers in high school and continue to educate myself to this day. There is always something new to learn and do on computers. They are great educational and entertainment machines.

One of my favorite pastimes is playing multiplayer/online games. Most computer games include some sort of artificial intelligence to provide a challenge to the human player. However, these PC opponents usually fall into a pattern of behavior. Once the human player recognizes this pattern, it's easy to defeat the computer. The ultimate challenge is a human opponent. Human opponents don't ALWAYS follow a pattern. They may attack hell-bent for leather one time and await for ambush at other times. Also, different human players play with different strategies. If you've never played Doom, Descent or Warcraft against a human opponent, you don't know what you're missing.

The internet provides a fantastic way to meet (and play against) other players. Kali provides a way to play multiplayer games over the internet. At any given time, there are hundreds of people on Kali wanting to play against another human opponent. If you want to try out Kali, you can download the demo from their web site. The demo allows you to play any game against any opponent for 15 minutes. I can almost guarantee you'll want to register after you've tried it. Registration is only $20!!! No monthly fees... No hourly fees... If you get on a Kali server, look for me. I'm usually on the Virtual Pool or Descent server. My Kali handle is VentureKing.

Online games have become so popular, that there are now leagues and ranking systems for these games. I am on a ranking system called Case's Ladder. There are ladders for many different games. And it's free!!!

Several friends and I enjoy playing pool over the internet. It's amazingly realistic! Since we couldn't find any ranking system for pool on the internet, I decided to create a ranking system for all Virtual Pool players from around the world. It is called the Virtual International Players Ladder. Thousands of players from all over the world are competing on this ladder (United States, Canada, England, Germany, Greece, Australia, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Croatia, Russia, Brazil, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Ireland, Hong Kong, Italy, Panama, Austria, Wales, Japan, Slovakia, France and Scotland). It's wonderfully fun!

Here's a list of my favorite multiplayer/online games:
